Writing and sharing helps me process what I read and gain some clarity. I like reading in the early morning when my mind focuses more easily than later in the day. Almost always, I am calmest in the morning. I am able to read disturbing information without being emotionally triggered. I often remind myself that today I am safe, today I am free.
It seems to me that Charlie Angus was calm when he wrote American Dachau: Trump Takes the Next Step and I remained calm as I read.
Dachau was the first step on the road to atrocity.
Will America go there?
Eight months ago, I would have said never. At that point, America was still a nation under the rule of law. Now, we have politicians cheering the image of people being fed to alligators.
Now, anything is frighteningly possible.
Being a Canadian Baby Boomer, of course I know who David Suzuki is. And today he is showing up in my Substack Notes feed as an item restacked by Gabrielle Feather. I will get straight to the punchline.
Now, it is too late.
I’ve never said this before to the media, but it’s too late.
Responding to a request, Jules Evans un-paywalled his article DMT on Mega-Yachts: Inside the Psychedelic Jet-Set and I am grateful, lots of great insights.
Jules: Why do you think so many people, especially after consuming powerful psychedelics like 5-MeO-DMT or ayahuasca, fall into what could be called a “Messiah syndrome”, believing they’ve been chosen to save the world?
Antoine: I’ve seen this countless times and I’ve gone through it myself… These substances are not new-age thrill rides, they are divine technologies. And without a razor-sharp intentional field, the ego reclaims the experience and uses it to elevate itself. You think you’ve met God. But more often, you’ve just been overwhelmed by your own unconscious mythology.
Soon after learning about the metacrisis, I learned about the importance of facing it calmly. I do not always succeed, but most of the time I am okay. And I sense that others who face reality calmly tend to be more deserving of my trust.
